You might be asking yourself this: what does it mean to elope? Well, elopements are usually gatherings of 10 or less people to celebrate your marriage. You can elope WHEREVER you want. Want to say, “I do” on top of a mountain? DO IT. Want to exchange your vows at participating venues? Go for it! Elopements are great because all that matters is you and your fiancé. You don’t have to worry about the added stresses of year long wedding planning!

Elopement Expectations

There are a lot of misconceptions about elopements that might make you unsure if an elopement is right for you. The first misconception that you HAVE to go to some spectacular location to elope. That might be great for some people, but it’s not for everyone. In particular, at this time a lot of venues are opening their doors to small weddings. Another misconception is that it won’t be as special as a “traditional” wedding. This is so untrue! What could be more special than dedicating a day and getting married to someone you love unconditionally? Some could argue that it is more special because theres more of a focus on the two of you.

One thing you hear a lot about elopements or small weddings is that your family and friends will be upset that they can’t be present. However, we say bringing your closest family and friends with you on your elopement journey is something you can do too via a livestream service like zoom. As well, the small wedding option of 50 people is a great option too to accommodate guests.

Generally, elopements do cost less than a full blown wedding, however, depending on your location, how long you could be hiring a photographer, travel costs, pricing may go higher than you expect. While you won’t have a large venue or catering bill, ensure that you will still have to budget for things like a venue, photographer, florist, dress, tux, etc. As well, you may have to be flexible about the actual date. It could be on a Thursday, Friday or Sunday!
